Inspired by the electric prayer chanting boxes used in Asia, spinning Tibetan prayer wheels, and the practice of temples around the world to play pre-recorded mantras, prayer streams are petapetual 's way to virtualize and automate prayers so that they can be used to serve your memorials.
petapetual has servers that are set up to replicate such chanting continuously and indefinitely in what are known as prayer streams.
When you subscribe a memorial to a prayer stream, the subject of your memorial is included in all of the future chants. These are logged and you can view all the chants your memorial has received from them in the petapetual application. For example, a memorial subscribed to a Buddhist prayer stream may have logs like this:
2025-10-31 08:00 ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ
2025-10-31 07:00 ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ
2025-10-31 06:00 ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ
2025-10-31 05:00 ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ
2025-10-31 04:00 ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ
........
...whereas a memorial subscribed to one of the Christian prayer streams may look like this:
2025-10-31 08:00 Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, ...
2025-10-31 07:00 Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, ...
2025-10-31 06:00 Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, ...
2025-10-31 05:00 Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, ...
2025-10-31 04:00 Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, ...
........
We keep the logs of prayer stream chants for up to seven days.
Prayer streams are our way to try and allow for memorials to still be prayed to when everyone is too busy, or not physically present. It should be noted that whilst convenient, nothing compares to showing up in person and reciting the prayers yourself.
You can set up a prayer stream on paid plans when creating a memorial on petapetual .
